Dharma Talk We ground ourselves in the felt sense of the body. Then, we turn our attention to our heart, noting the quality of that space and our attitude towards it. Finally, our heartspace becomes the focus of our attention for the rest of the sit. 39 minutes Note: There is silence in the beginning of the meditation and guidance throughout. Why be generous? Dana, or generosity, is the third pillar of Buddhism, the first two being sila (morality) and bhavana (development); the three fit together and represent a purification of the mind. Tonight’s talk explores the many forms of generosity, obstacles to generosity, fear of generosity, and generosity’s shadow. This is just as true "in life" as returning to your breath on the cushion. When you cultivate the practice of just "starting over," you are re- connecting to the "wise" or "right intention" of the Noble Eightfold path. |
